Statement from the Reproductive Freedom Alliance on Todd Blanche’s Confirmation as Attorney General

“The Reproductive Freedom Alliance finds Todd Blanche’s confirmation as Attorney General alarming, as should anyone in this country who values the freedom to make their own health care decisions. Blanche has made clear his intent to weaponize the Department of Justice (DOJ) to further attack abortion access nationwide and interfere with states’ ability to protect reproductive freedom — including calling for the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to be made ‘permanent in every single state.’ Under this administration, the DOJ has refused to enforce the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, jeopardizing the safety of health care providers who face violence and harassment. Now, Blanche has committed to working with the White House to restrict the mailing of mifepristone and using the Comstock Act to limit access to medication abortion broadly, including in states where it is legal.  

The Reproductive Freedom Alliance calls on Todd Blanche, in his new role as Attorney General, to fairly enforce the law and uphold fundamental freedoms. The Alliance will continue to use every tool available to protect patients and providers, defend access to lawful reproductive health care, and expand reproductive freedom for all.”
