Dr. Heidi Overton’s nomination as FDA Commissioner creates a disturbing possibility that someone with a clear anti-abortion record will lead an agency with enormous influence over reproductive health care nationwide. Overton has denounced abortion as ‘corrosive’ and called for restrictions on medication abortion in a brief she authored at the America First Policy Institute, ignoring decades of rigorous scientific review and real-world evidence and raising serious concerns about her ability to maintain a neutral, trustworthy FDA driven by science-based analysis, not political agendas.
The Reproductive Freedom Alliance urges the U.S. Senate to oppose Overton’s nomination. RFA Governors will continue to protect patients and providers, defend state-level protections, and safeguard and expand access to reproductive health care.
