Governor Mikie Sherrill has long been a champion for reproductive freedom. During her tenure in Congress, she introduced legislation to protect abortion and IVF access for military women and voted in favor of the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify abortion rights enshrined in Roe v. Wade. Building on her record, Governor Sherrill will ensure that New Jersey remains a national leader in protecting and expanding reproductive health and rights.
Since the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, New Jersey has enshrined and defended reproductive rights, made care more affordable and accessible, invested in the safety-net, and supported workforce growth. Below is a non-exhaustive list of key actions taken in New Jersey to protect and expand reproductive freedom.
The Sherrill Administration will continue shielding residents and providers from federal attacks while taking proactive steps to safeguard access to care. As part of this work, the State Fiscal Year 2027 budget maintains $52 million for family planning services and reproductive health access, in addition to those covered by State-sponsored insurance programs. Of this amount, more than $30 million supports care, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay, at clinics in every county, and the $22 million Reproductive Health Access Fund enables the State to respond to emerging threats and expand reproductive health care access.
